ANNOUNCEMENTS: to be read in 1st period classes

Guidance Announcements

 

Attention Seniors – UVM will waive their application fee for any Vermont students applying through Early Action Program, with the application deadline of Tuesday, November 1st. (Note UVM uses the online Common Application).

 

Students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade who are interested in exploring military careers are invited to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Career Exploration Program exam on Monday, November 7th at GMTCC. If interested or for more information please see Amy McArdle or Charlene.

·         HUNO Club is collecting non-perishable food for the local Food Shelf. The goal is 50 items per TA. This food drive will run the month of November. The TA in each grade that brings in the most items will be rewarded a Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream party!

·         Attention students: Friday Program registration forms and applicable waivers must be signed by a parent and returned with any fees in the high school office as soon as possible!

·         Sports Registration for Winter Sports is now open – go to the NEW website www.stoweschoolsvt.com, at the top of the page click on Our Schools, go to Stowe High, click on School links, then to SHS Athletics, then click on Register for Sports online. Deadline is Tuesday, November 1st.

·         A representative from the US Army will be in the cafeteria on Thursday, November 3rd during both lunches.

·         Stowe Youth Hockey is pleased to present the preseason Midget skate on November 1st, 2nd 3rd and 8th 9th and 10th of November at the Stowe Arena with Coach Brady Leisenring. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:45 – 7:00am and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:45am. All HS girls and boys players are welcome to participate. Register at SYH.

·         Attention Alpine Ski Team – Stowe Mountain Season Passes are on sale now! Special Deals before Sunday, November 6th.

·         Do you want to work the polls on Election Day? The Assistant Town Clerks Megan Gregory & Lisa Walker are looking for Stowe residents 16 years old or older to work the polls on Tuesday, November 8th for the following shifts. 7:00am – 10:00am, 10:00am – 1:00pm, 1:00pm – 4:00pm or 4:00pm – 7:00pm. To work during school hours you need to have a study hall or open campus and written permission from a parent. This will count for Community Service. Call 253-6133

·         The SMHS Chinese program is hosting the second annual Play it Again Stowe gear swap on Friday, November 11th from 11:00am to 5:00pm in the SMHS cafeteria. Donate your used sport gear – all sports and all ages are welcome – at our drop of location in the main office. Then come shop the selection to get gear at low prices on November 11th! All proceeds support Chinese language and & culture field trips for Stowe students.

·         The Stowe Gear Online Stowe is open with some new items added. The deadline to order is Sunday, November 13th. And no late orders are accepted. The gear will arrive at the high school before the holiday break. http://stowehswinter2016.itemorder.com Go Raiders!!

·         Come support the High School Musical "Urinetown" on Friday, November 18th at 7:00pm, Saturday, November 19th at 2:00pm and 7:00pm and on Sunday, November 20th at 2:00pm. Tickets are $ 10/adults and $7/students 14 and under. 

·         Community Service:

o   Volunteer's needed for Wheels for Warmth Tire Drop Off at Percy Park on Weeks Hill Road. Shifts are TODAY, Friday, October 28th 2:00 – 4:00pm & 4:00 – 6:00pm. Please bring gloves and clothes that can get dirty. Contact Heidi Scheuermann Heidi@heidischeuermann.com or 802-793-3889.

o   Green Mountain Athletic Association is hosting the 2016 Middle School Cross Country Championships at Trapps TOMORROW, Saturday, October 29th. They are looking for volunteer's tasks: Water stops/Aid stations, Course Marshals, Race Day Registration, Finish Line, Traffic/Parking, T-shirts and Runner Food Preparation. Hours are 8:00am – noon. o   Support our local veterans and community members by volunteering at the 3rd Annual Free Veteran's Day Community Breakfast at Stowe Community Church on Friday, November 11th. Signup sheet in the high school office.

·         The Ultimate Frisbee Club is now selling Stowe Raider Frisbee's for $15. See Roger to purchase.

·         Students can now upload photos from their mobile devices to be put into the yearbook through an app called "Replay It". It is available for free online. Yearbook club is looking for sports pictures, homecoming pictures, spirit week pictures and any candid's you wish to be seen in the yearbook.

 

FACULTY:

  • During this week, SHS will get a visit from teachers and students from Nicaragua! The visitors are part of Planting Hope, the Montpelier-based, non-profit organization which promotes education and cultural exchanges in Nicaragua and Vermont. Please see Heidi Vietze or Laura Kalp if you have any questions.
  • Eligibility Check will take place TODAY, Friday, October 28th.
  • 1st Quarter Report Cards will be distributed to students TODAY, Friday, October 28th at 2:25 in TA locations.
  • Faculty Meeting will take place on Monday, October 31st at 2:45 in Tegan Garon's room.
  • National Honor Society Induction Ceremony will take place on Thursday, November 3rd at 6:30pm in the auditorium. 
  • Parent Teacher Conferences will take place on Friday, November 11th (8:00 – 4:00 pm.)
  • English teachers (Hoffmann, Kennedy, Murphy, and Schnee will be taking all freshmen on a field trip on Wednesday, November 16th to the Hyde Park Opera House (9:15 – 12:30pm) to see the play "12 Angry Men".

·         Picture Retake Day is scheduled TOMORROW, Thursday, October 27th.  Picture forms are in the office for those who were absent for the first session.  If you are having your photo retaken, you must bring in your photo package and return it to the photographer.  We will call by grade level over the PA system when the photographer is done with the middle school retakes.

·         There will be a mandatory Double Period Band Rehearsal TOMORROW, Thursday, October 27th and again on Thursday, November 10th periods 3 & 4.  Students will be preparing for their concert in November. There is a list of Band members on the board next to the mailboxes.

·         The annual 6th Grade Wreath & Citrus Sale is going on now through October 28th If you would like to order something, but do not know a 6th grader, email sarafarley3@gmail.com and we will make sure you are taken care of. Thank you in advance for your support.

Students who take the Wolcott bus home can be dropped off between Stowe and Wolcott on RT 100 and 15.  Students who go to Wolcott Elementary need to be picked up by 12:15.  Progress Committee will have a detailed schedule forthcoming.

·         Informational Alpine Ski Team meeting for parents & athletes will take place on Monday, October 24th at 5:30pm in the cafeteria. If you are at all interested in joining the team, please attend this meeting.

·         Jazz Band will meet on Tuesday, October 25th during block 4.

·         Cotton Brook Fun Run!! Come check it out. Every Tuesday at 5:20pm runners, joggers, and walkers gather to participate in the Cotton Brook Fun Run. Choose a half mile, 1 mile, 2.2 mile or the ever challenging 5k. It is a great way to improve overall strength and endurance. Meet below the gate in Cotton Brook every

Attention Seniors – UVM will waive their application fee for any Vermont students applying through Early Action Program, with the application deadline of November 1st. (Note UVM uses the online Common Application).

 

Students in 10th, 11th and 12th grade who are interested in exploring military careers are invited to take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) Career Exploration Program exam on November 7th at GMTCC. If interested or for more information please see Amy McArdle or Charlene.

·         Music Lessons – TODAY, Monday, October 17th – H. Abramsohn period 1, J. Meyer & A. Patching period 5, S. Stafford period 6B, A. Hamilton period 7, W. Cannon, A. Infante & T. Hoekstra period 8.

·         Lisa Walker, the assistant Town Clerk of Stowe will be at the HS at noon TODAY, Monday, October 17th to register anyone who will be 18 years old before November 8th and has not yet registered to vote and wishes to do so. Lisa can also register students from towns other than Stowe. So register if you wish to vote for President this year!

·         Optional pickup basketball with Alex Minkoff will take place TODAY, Monday at 5:00pm.

·         Jazz Band will take place TOMORROW, Tuesday, October 18th block 2.

·         ·         Early release for all students will take place on Wednesday, October 19th.  Students will be dismissed at 11:45.  Lunch will be available. Students who take the Wolcott bus home can be dropped off between Stowe and Wolcott on RT 100 and 15.  Students who go to Wolcott Elementary need to be picked up by 12:15.  Progress Committee will have a detailed schedule forthcoming.

·         Attention students: Friday Program registration forms and applicable waivers must be signed by a parent and returned with any fees no later than Tuesday, October 25th.

·         The annual 6th Grade Wreath & Citrus Sale is going on now through October 28th If you would like to order something, but do not know a 6th grader, email sarafarley3@gmail.com and we will make sure you are taken care of. Thank you in advance for your support.

·         Attention Alpine Ski Team – Stowe Mountain Season Passes are on sale now! Special Deals before Sunday, November 6th.

·         Mr. McDowell and Carolina C. are looking for students that would be potentially interested in a neuroscience club, with UVM undergraduates coming to school weekly to share their knowledge on neuroscience. See Mr. McDowell or Carolina Christ if interested.

·         Community Service:

o   Volunteer's needed for Stowe Parks and Rec. Pumpkin Lobotomy – On Saturday, October 29th at SES from 1:00 – 3:00pm. Email Emily at eboek@townofstowevermont.org

o   Volunteer's needed for Stowe Parks and Rec. Halloween Party on Monday, October 31st at SES from 4:00 – 6:30pm. Email Emily at eboek@townofstowevermont.org

o   Support our local veterans and community members by volunteering at the 3rd Annual Free Veteran's Day Community Breakfast at Stowe Community Church on Friday, November 11th. Signup sheet in the high school office.

Old News:

·         Students can now upload photos from their mobile devices to be put into the yearbook through an app called "Replay It". It is available for free online. Yearbook club is looking for sports pictures, homecoming pictures, spirit week pictures and any candid's you wish to be seen in the yearbook.

·         Sports Registration for Winter Sports is now open – go to the NEW website www.stoweschoolsvt.com, at the top of the page click on Our Schools, go to Stowe High, click on School links, then to SHS Athletics, then click on Register for Sports online.

·         Cotton Brook Fun Run!! Come check it out. Every Tuesday at 5:20pm runners, joggers, and walkers gather to participate in the Cotton Brook Fun Run. Choose a half mile, 1 mile, 2.2 mile or the ever challenging 5k. It is a great way to improve overall strength and endurance. Meet below the gate in Cotton Brook every  

 

FACULTY:

  • EST Meeting will take place TODAY, Monday, October 17th at 2:45 in the Student Support Center.
  • Early Release for all students will take place on Wednesday, October 19th at 11:45. Progress Committee will have a detailed schedule forthcoming.
  • End of 1st Quarter is Wednesday, October 19th.
  • 2nd Quarter begins on Monday, October 24th.
  • During the week of October 24th, SHS will get a visit from teachers and students from Nicaragua! The visitors are part of Planting Hope, the Montpelier-based, non-profit organization which promotes education and cultural exchanges in Nicaragua and Vermont. More information of their visit will follow. Please see Heidi Vietze or Laura Kalp if you have any questions.
  • 1st Quarter Report Cards will be distributed to students on Friday, October 28th at 2:25 in TA locations.
